The Eye Center
Our department provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical treatments for ocular disorders in infants, children, and adults. We have highly qualified optometrists to meet our comprehensive eyecare needs while our diverse set of ophthalmologists specialize in many fields, including corneal and external diseases, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, vitreoretinal diseases, pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, oculoplastics and orbital surgery, and ocular oncology.
As a teaching institution, we pride ourselves in education and research, dedicating our work to the advancement of the latest scientific knowledge and training the future eye doctors and surgeons of the world. We offer a three-year ophthalmology residency and two-year vitreoretinal fellowship program.

The J. Terry Ernest Imaging Center
The newly-developed J. Terry Ernest Imaging Center was created to support our faculty and provide the highest level of clinical care for our patients. This is a comprehensive suite of diagnostic instruments and state-of-the-art imaging technology that allows us accurately identify and treat a wide range of eye conditions. We have invested a substantial amount of resources cultivating the latest in medical technology so that our patients receive the best care possible, as we are a common referral destination for patients across the United States. This also supports our mission to offer educational excellence and inspirational research for the many students and doctors that train with us.
Visual Science Research
The Shevell Visual Science Laboratory is part of the Institute for Mind and Biology (IMB) and headed by Professor Steven Shevell in the Department of Psychology and Ophthalmology & Visual Science at the University of Chicago. The lab investigates the processes of the eye and brain that serve vision with a primary research focus on visual pathways that mediate color and brightness perception.
