After three days of orientation—filled with seminars, service trips, and some stuffed animals from Dave and Buster's—members of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine class of 2020 filed into Rockefeller Chapel for the annual White Coat Ceremony.
The keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony was Kathryn Colby, MD, PhD, Louis Block Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science. In explaining the five qualities key to her success thus far—passion, focus, persistence, integration, and gratitude—she inspired our 90 newest medical students as they embark on their training. "You will heal when you can, and comfort when you cannot. How fortunate we all are to have found such a meaningful calling," she said. “Cultivate gratitude and express it freely."
