The Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, Kathryn Colby, MD, PhD, is pleased to announce our stellar incoming residents for the class of 2021. The three future ophthalmologists come with impressive accomplishments, high recommendations from mentors, and a clear passion for learning.
Ema Avdagic will be graduating this year from SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. She received her undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Columbia University, where she was Vice President of the Columbia Neuroscience Society. Ema has completed several elective ophthalmology rotations, including one here at the University of Chicago.
Lincoln Shaw will be graduating this year from Northeast Ohio Medical School and is a member of NEOMED Zeta Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha. Lincoln received his undergraduate degree in Combined Sciences from Youngstown State University in Ohio, where he graduated magna cum laude. He also completed an ophthalmology rotation here at the University of Chicago.
Andrea Blitzer graduated last year from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and is currently doing research in ophthalmology at the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center. Prior to attending medical school, Andrea worked as an ophthalmic assistant at New York City Ophthalmology in Brooklyn, New York.
We are excited to have Ema, Lincoln, and Andrea joining our team next year and look forward to seeing the great work that they do in ophthalmology!
