Announcing our newest faculty to UChicago OVS!
Sarah Hilkert, MD, MPH, an Ohio native, has recently completed a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Northwestern. Prior to that, she completed medical school and ophthalmology residency at the Ohio State University. Sarah also received an MPH from Johns Hopkins during medical school! Sarah has a strong interest in global health and has completed a number of mission trips during her training and just this summer. Sarah comes highly recommended by Nicholas Volpe (Chair, Northwestern) and Thomas Mauger (Chair, Ohio State). Dr. Mauger opined that Sarah is one of his favorite people. Sarah will work to expand our services in pediatric ophthalmology and she hopes to develop an international outreach program. I know our colleagues in Pediatrics are also excited to have her join U of C.
Asim Farooq, MD, a Chicagoland native, joins us after residency at UIC, and a cornea/external disease fellowship at Washington University. Asim is remarkably productive, having published 10 papers in 2015 and 2016, while training! He has recently described a novel form of keratopathy from coral used in aquariums. Asim’s mentors gave him glowing evaluations, including the comments, “really stellar” and “outstanding.” Asim joins the other members of our comprehensive ophthalmology team. He will also be our point person for non-ophthalmic clinical trials that need ophthalmology care. Given his track record, Asim should be an excellent resource for residents and medical students who wish to do projects.
Welcome Dr. Hilkert and Dr. Farooq!
