Welcome to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Chicago

The University of Chicago Medical Center is a comprehensive medical network designed to meet all of your health needs. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science (OVS) provides a full range of medical and surgical treatments for everyone in your family, from infants to adults. Our primary eye clinic includes optometrists who welcome new patients and help to diagnose and manage most eye conditions. For those who need advanced care, we have highly-esteemed ophthalmologists who specialize in different areas, including: cataract, cornea, glaucoma, retina, pediatrics and adult strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and oncology.

In our J. Terry Imaging Center, we are proud to offer state-of-the art technology that supports the accurate diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of ocular disease.  As part of a world-renown academic center, we prioritize education and research for the nation’s brightest, offering multiple learning programs for residents, fellows, and students. We have a fully-accredited ophthalmology residency training program and offer a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship.

The University of Chicago is a proud partner and anchor for families and local communities in Illinois and Indiana. We strive for the highest level of clinical care and are committed to improving the lives of those we serve. Our mission is to use the power of education, research, and innovation to create real, lasting benefits and opportunity for the people of Chicago and beyond.
